Who Kipu Health is best for
Kipu is built for treatment centers rather than general outpatient practices. Its EMR, admissions CRM, revenue cycle (RCM) and governance, risk and compliance (GRC) modules share one patient record. Kipu says it serves 6,000+ facilities and 150,000+ users.
Best for
- Substance use disorder treatment centers, including detox, residential, PHP and IOP programs
- Eating disorder and behavioral health treatment centers with multiple levels of care
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs
- Organizations that want admissions, clinical, billing and accreditation work (Joint Commission, CARF) in one vendor
Not ideal for
- Solo therapists or small outpatient counseling practices, which are usually better served by lighter tools
- Practices that want to fully outsource billing, since Kipu RCM is software your team operates
- Buyers who need published pricing
Kipu Health pros and cons
Pros
- Purpose-built for behavioral health treatment workflows, including group notes, medication management, labs and utilization review
- RCM generates claims from the attendance calendar, runs batch eligibility checks and supports automated ERA posting
- Admissions CRM tracks leads, referrals and alumni outreach in the same platform
- GRC module covers state, Joint Commission and CARF requirements plus staff training
- Kipu Intelligence adds Note Assistant, which transcribes sessions and drafts structured notes in SOAP, DAP and other Kipu form formats
- HITRUST r2 certified EMR and an ONC-certified product (Kipu Health V15)
Cons
- Pricing is quote-only, so costs cannot be compared without a sales consultation
- A broad platform with many modules means implementation and training take time
- Does not advertise outsourced billing services
Kipu Health pricing
Kipu does not publish pricing as of 2026; quotes come through a sales consultation. Pricing typically depends on the number of beds or census, users, locations, levels of care and which modules you license (EMR, CRM, RCM, GRC, AI). Get implementation, migration, training and clearinghouse fees, contract length and annual increases in writing.

HIPAA, security and integrations
Kipu announced in July 2023 that its EMR achieved HITRUST r2 (risk-based, two-year) certification. Its ONC certification page lists Kipu Health V15, certified January 20, 2026, against criteria including EHI export, multi-factor authentication, encryption of credentials and end-user device encryption. Kipu does not publish SOC 2 details or BAA terms on its site; ask for the BAA during contracting. For connections to other systems, Kipu offers HL7 interfaces and an API, and lists certified partners such as Opio Connect (methadone dosing), Chess Health, ERP Health and Stripe.
