Who SimplePractice is best for
SimplePractice is practice management and EHR software for private-practice clinicians, mostly in mental health, plus speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and other wellness professionals. It says more than 250,000 practitioners use it. It is designed for clinicians running their own practice without dedicated IT or billing staff, and its pricing is published and month-to-month.
Best for
- Solo therapists, counselors, psychologists and social workers
- Small group mental health practices that want published per-clinician pricing
- Psychiatric prescribers who need light e-prescribing alongside therapy notes
Not ideal for
- Multi-specialty medical practices that need lab orders, complex charting or hospital workflows
- Large behavioral health organizations with programs, payer contracts and clinical reporting needs
- Practices that want to outsource billing entirely
SimplePractice pros and cons

HIPAA, security and integrations
SimplePractice describes its software as HIPAA compliant, publishes a Business Associate Agreement on its site and displays HITRUST and PCI compliance marks along with two-factor authentication and data encryption badges in its Trust Center. It does not publish the HITRUST assessment type, SOC 2 reports or its hosting provider on public pages. Most capabilities are built in rather than integrated: insurance claims, card processing, telehealth and e-prescribing run inside the product. SimplePractice does not advertise EHR-to-EHR interfaces, so practices that exchange records with hospitals or labs should confirm options.
