Who Assort Health is best for
Assort Health is a San Francisco company, founded by Jon Wang and Jeffery Liu, that builds AI agents for patient phone calls and texts. It started with orthopedic and physical therapy practices and now lists 17 specialties, from cardiology and pediatrics to FQHCs and urgent care. Its agents answer inbound calls 24/7, book appointments using the practice's scheduling rules, take refill and lab requests, and escalate urgent after-hours calls through the practice's on-call workflow. Named customers include Michigan Orthopedic Surgeons, Chesapeake Health Care, SENTA Partners, Barrington Orthopedic Specialists and Annapolis Internal Medicine.
Best for
- Orthopedic and other specialty groups with complex scheduling rules
- Primary care and pediatric groups on Epic, athenahealth or NextGen Enterprise
- Practices that want after-hours calls answered and booked, with urgent ones sent to the on-call provider
Not ideal for
- Solo practices that want a published monthly price and self-serve setup
- Practices whose EHR is not among those Assort supports directly
- Buyers who require a published SOC 2 or HITRUST report before a sales call
Assort Health pros and cons
Pros
- Books, cancels and reschedules directly in the EHR in one call, following provider and visit-type rules
- Specialty-specific workflows, such as surgical consult, MRI and PT scheduling in orthopedics
- After-hours coverage that answers, books and escalates urgent clinical calls to the on-call provider
- Refill requests capture medication, dosage, prescriber and pharmacy and become an EHR task
- Warm handoff screens show staff what the patient already told the AI
Cons
- No published pricing; every deal starts with a demo
- Security certifications are not stated on the public site; details sit behind its Trust Center
- Vendor figures on the number of supported EHRs differ between pages
- Built and sold for groups and health systems rather than single-provider offices
Assort Health pricing
As of November 2026, Assort Health does not publish prices. Its website and its NextGen marketplace listing direct buyers to request a demo, and the after-hours page says onboarding is included and deployment takes weeks. Ask for pricing per call, minute or provider, implementation fees and the contract term in writing.
Key features
- Inbound voice AI: scheduling, cancellations, confirmations, FAQs such as hours, directions and accepted insurance
- EHR scheduling: reads open slots and creates, cancels or reschedules appointments, with cancellation reasons mapped to the practice's own list
- After-hours coverage: answers calls, texts and chats when the office is closed, books visits, and escalates urgent clinical concerns through the existing on-call workflow
- Medication refills: collects medication, dosage, prescriber and pharmacy, applies practice policies such as required follow-up visits, and creates a case for clinical review
- Intake and eligibility: collects demographics, insurance and history during booking, with real-time eligibility checks and insurance card photos sent by link
- Triage and routing to the right provider, department or next step, with warm handoff to staff
- Outbound outreach by voice, text and email for waitlists, recalls and re-engagement
- Referrals, fax intake and payments as add-on agents
HIPAA, security and integrations
Assort Health's site includes a Business Associate Agreement page and describes its platform as having audited security with every AI decision recorded. Security and compliance detail is published through its Trust Center rather than on the main site, and we could not confirm a SOC 2 or HITRUST status from a public Assort page. Ask for its BAA, SOC 2 report and subprocessor list during evaluation.
Assort says it integrates natively with Epic and athenahealth. In September 2026 it announced direct integration with NextGen Enterprise through NextGen's Platinum API tier, covering scheduling, referrals, patient cases, clinical notes and payments; that requires NextGen Enterprise 5.9.0 or later. It also has a Nextech integration for ophthalmology. Each interaction is written to the EHR in real time, with clinical items created as tasks. The NextGen listing says the agents work 24/7 in more than 29 languages.
