Why practices look for The SSI Group alternatives
The SSI Group, based in Mobile, Alabama since 1988, sells a claims clearinghouse, the Claims Director scrubbing product, eligibility, prior authorization, denial and remittance tools, and analytics. Its customers are mostly hospitals, health systems, physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, long-term care facilities and health plans. It has added an AI automation layer it calls Autonomous Revenue Core.
The reasons to look elsewhere are mostly about fit and transparency. SSI publishes no pricing; buyers go through a Build My Plan tool or sales. Its product depth targets enterprise billing teams, so a small practice may pay for more than it uses. It is software only, so it does not replace billing staff. Its public pages also give little detail on security attestations such as SOC 2 or HITRUST.
The best The SSI Group alternatives
Waystar
Waystar is a large revenue cycle platform covering financial clearance, claims, payer payments, denial recovery, analytics and patient payments. It says it serves more than 1 million providers. It is the closest like-for-like replacement for a hospital or large group, and it also connects to many physician practice management systems. As of November 2026, Waystar does not publish prices; contracts are quoted after a demo.
Quadax
Quadax is a Cleveland claims and clearinghouse vendor that serves hospitals, labs, ambulatory practices and post-acute providers, much like SSI's market. It was named 2026 Best in KLAS for Claims Management and Clearinghouse, its fifth win in that category. Quadax says unlimited custom claim rules are included at no extra cost for hospitals. As of November 2026, it does not publish pricing.
TriZetto Provider Solutions
TriZetto is a Cognizant-owned clearinghouse that many practice management systems use behind the scenes. It reports more than 875,000 providers, 650 direct EMR and PM integrations and 11,000 payer connections. Unlike SSI, it also offers outsourced billing, coding and credentialing. It says it is SOC 2, EHNAC and HITRUST certified. Ask about the breach it detected in October 2025, which a Maine filing put at more than 3.4 million people. As of November 2026, pricing is quote-only.
Stedi
Stedi is an API-first clearinghouse for eligibility, claims, claim status and remittances. It suits health tech companies and billing teams with developers, not hospital billing departments that want a finished user interface. As of November 2026, its pay-as-you-go plan has no monthly minimum. Claims cost $0.30 each for the first 500 a month, falling to $0.10 above 10,000. ERAs cost $0.20 falling to $0.08.
Office Ally
Office Ally is a low-cost clearinghouse with free Practice Mate practice management software and an optional EHR. It suits small practices and billing services that find SSI oversized. It lacks the institutional claim depth a hospital needs. As of November 2026, Software Finder lists Practice Mate at $0 with no monthly fee and EHR 24/7 at $44.95 per provider per month, with transaction fees possible. The clearinghouse itself is custom-priced.
How to choose
- Do you bill institutional (837I) claims at hospital volume, or mainly professional claims?
- Do you need payer-specific edits and denial analytics, or just reliable claim and eligibility transactions?
- Does your EHR or PM system already have a preferred clearinghouse built in?
- Do you need outsourced billing, coding or credentialing alongside the software?
- Which security attestations, such as SOC 2 or HITRUST, does your compliance team require?
- Can the vendor give per-transaction rates, implementation fees and minimum terms in writing?
